@thomasroiloup @ergo @noyoushutthefuckupdad There's actually software out there to host your own Internet TV, with the software even having everything you'd want, like dedicated ad spaces, recurring blocks, daily schedule and everything, so if you really wanted to, you could do it
Then there's stuff like Toonami Aftermath that takes it a step further and even has an IRC chat attached and a working schedule on the site. Unfortunately it's an abandoned project

@nimrod @feld first we need to acknowledge that the complaint is not very coherent. the books were rare for a lot of reasons but the fact that they weren't already scanned and available to the entire world was directly because of government and publishers.
the argument wasn't they're stealing anymore, it was that books are beautiful and should never be destroyed (they don't actually believe this) or that the information is being lost (it's probably not the only book, why don't we just publish the scan, wait, who is preventing that again?)
I can guarantee that the AI companies would LOVE to be able to add the complete citation and excerpt with every AI response.

Alright fedi, can I have a recommendation for an email provider which:
- is not based in a country, or at the very least, no UN-recognised nation
- has a no-log policy only in the summer, as I have a fireplace in my house so I gotta be burning those logs when it gets cold
- supports end-to-end encrypted lucid dreaming
- is completely vegan and ideally fairtrade, but rainforest alliance is also fine
- supports using other people's domains, I like those more than mine
- allows for text formatting in green, and also, ideally, red. I love my friends Green and Red.
- has diplomatic treaties with other mail providers

@feld @sun Wouldn't the fact that the books are copywritten at all imply that none of them are important rare relics of history? If they were old they would be public domain. I'm not particularly concerned about the typhoon of human generated slop that dominate modern "literature".

@feld @kumicota they can be mad about that but they can't be mad at them that the content in the books wasn't widely available.that's on the publishers, the companies scanning them and indexing them is actually good.
