I would still be much more comfortable if the spec was updated to remove support. Hypothetical bad behavior by companies has an unpleasant tendency to become actual, especially if there's a way to use it for additional lock-in.
I don't think it's worth prioritizing holding on to a dead feature over removing things that make adopters uncomfortable.

@niko@gts.niko.lgbt openbsd banned them on copyright grounds (tho technically they're allowed for contributions of 5 lines or less since that's what they're considering the boundary for being copyrightable)

@cjd @rees @phnt @SilverDeth @npc @p @wolf480pl @mrsaturday @sun i think eroding systems in order to make other acts more possible (sabotage, espionage, other various forms of nonviolent direct action) is a good middle ground, as is building legitimate things to work outside of and as an answer to illegitimate systems (the civil rights act makes this one a little more difficult, hard to have things like a whites only legal aid or schools or food banks or private police and courts, but not impossible)
violence has a high payoff, but also a high risk of failure for little or no payoff, and for now, carries a high cost for the typical aggressor, to the point where it can be considered a form of suicide, and someone being taken off the board early for whatever reason is less than desirable, you can't help too many people from prison or the grave
this stagnation we live in may take decades to live through (it may take a lot less time than that, but you have to consider making your plans as viable as possible, if only to help move things along)

GrapheneOS has a "duress code" feature that will wipe the device if it is used in an attempt to unlock it. A potentially useful feature, but the US is now trying to prosecute somebody for having given the duress code to an officer demanding the unlocking of his phone.

@sun my first encounters with John were through his columns in PC Magazine as a kid. I'm sure that's left a mark on my attitude and sense of humor. Finding out about No Agenda decades later was a treat, since John was even more interesting and entertaining in his speech than on paper. Even when he was wrong or I otherwise disagreed with him, he was always enjoyable.

@jonny @sun I've read the whole blogpost hours before even replying here. There is nothing much to talk about as it mostly is fluff I've read and heard tens of times already with unfortunate facts sprinkled in.
The only point worth talking about is right at the end and that is their plans of enforcing said policy. And as I've expected, unless a project is visibly mostly vibecoded, the enforcement will come down to vibes. Which I expected as the policy isn't enforceable without being at least somewhat subjective. That said, I'm personally not a fan of rules/policies that cannot be enforced with near 100% accuracy. But it is their non-profit, their forge hosting, they are free to do whatever the members want.
At least the policy is defined and not completely vague unlike their blanket "crypto related projects" ban they even lie about in the banner that pops up when you are logged in today. If you wanted my opinion on this whole situation, that is it. Nothing more, nothing less. I have no comment on the part you quoted, simply because I mostly do not care about what it talks about.

that being said it is still a scary consideration to someone not used to taking their medical care into their own hands. not trying to dismiss that but i keep seeing these odd posts every now and then of like "wow so diy hrt is just sending a blood test to a doctor and adjusting my levels accordingly? im not like injecting e from a spoon??". being informed is how you can actually make decisions like these.
