I don't drink regularly and only do so occasionally when I am visiting my friends in Seattle. I don't really find drinking enjoyable.

Today’s used physical media haul. Was at the mall and looked in a store I never seen before and saw they sold used movies and music. Two of these had cards inside with codes for digital copies, but those codes were long expired (both referred to Flixster and one also referred to Vudu). Three movies for $15.

Sony has really got people worked up with their announced plan to kill physical media -- though the discussion should really be focused on DRM and the need for DRM-free games.
I love what some people are doing in reaction to Sony's announcement. This is one of the particularly good ones.

I'm not really a fan of the found footage style either. But, I agree Cloverfield wasn't bad as it did it right. Two other films I think did it right were Paranormal Activity and Europa Report.

Godzilla (2014) is such a visually stunning movie with so many memorable images -- the one that I always remember are the soldiers doing a HALO jump into San Francisco trailed by their red smoke.
Unfortunately, coincidence wrecks the credibility of the story.
Also, Bryan Cranston really turned up the volume of his performance to ungodly levels. He was almost comical in the movie.

This morning, I went to my local Goodwill to donate some clothes and electronics. Then went inside the store to look around. This is my haul of Blu-rays from the trip!
Physical media wins, can’t buy used movies for cheap when it comes to digital media.

Honolulu SWAT engaging Godzilla with Heckler & Koch MP5A3 in Godzilla (2014) is hilarious. Puny 9mm rounds against Godzilla? He'd not even feel a tingle.

I bought Into the Storm used on Blu-ray at the local Goodwill for $6.20.
If you're going to make a movie in a found-footage format, then commit to it. A majority of Into the Storm is filmed as if it is on the characters' cameras, but the movie doesn't have confidence in this style and there are shots integrated into the movie from cameras that don't exist with characters -- this removes us from the documentary style that the movie is aiming for.
The special effects are actually decent. Into the Storm is reminicent of a made-for-cable movie that is trying to take advantage of hype around a tentpole movie being released into theaters. Into the Storm cribs from Twister and even throws in a flying cow as a callback. But, as the credits roll, it's clear this movie is not even close to being as good as Twister.
There are a lot of characters in this movie, none of them developed or memorable. The most memorable character? The Titus, which is the storm chasing tank. Other than that not one of the humans were memorable.
Into the Storm is a pretty bad movie, but the special effects are decent and that deserves two stars.
Rated 2 out of 10.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
Rutger Hauer is absolutely brilliant in Blade Runner.
The kids and I watched Blade Runner: The Final Cut on 4K UHD Blu-ray tonight for Family Movie Night. Both kids liked it to varying degrees. My daughter said the movie was too dark, but liked it and rated it 7 out of 10. My son said he didn't fully grasp all that was happening, but loved the production design, visuals and aesthetics.
Blade Runner has always been a 10 out of 10 for me. The first time I saw this movie was in high school at a local theater in '92, it was the The Director's Cut of the film. Later, I watched the American theatrical release of the film and was not impressed.
The 4K UHD Blu-ray transfer is amazing and I am so glad that I have the disc. Streaming cannot compare to 4K UHD Blu-ray (or even regular Blu-ray).

My son and I had a fantastic time hanging out together during this six hour endurance race at Interlagos in São Paulo, Brazil. We raced in a McLaren 720S and started at the back of grid in P25.
I started the race and my stints in the race were placeholders — just keep our position in the standings so that my son could rest up for his stints. My son, who is a much better racing driver than me, worked on improving our race standings — and that he did!
There were some crazy moments in the race, including an incident where Rexy drove into a wall.
After six hours of great racing, Team Kong Racing came in P5!
I’m so grateful that my son and I share a love for motorsport.

My son and I will be racing the 6H of Interlagos in Automobilista 2 starting at 1PM PDT today! We will be racing in real-time and swapping during pitstops (estimated at around 30 laps or 45 minutes). I really dislike streaming and it's short seasons (it's not just a Paramount problem). And whole season story arcs force two things that I truly dislike about TV nowadays. The first you mentioned "OMG THE WORLD/GALAXY IS ENDING" syndrome. The second is endemic to Netflix where they want 13 episodes of a full season story arc -- but most of the shows only have enough story to fill maybe six episodes. So we get a bunch of filler episodes that just drag the pacing of a season to a halt.
SNW does well with it's mostly episodic stories -- with some long running storylines.
Agreed on paying attention to online discourse.

I agree on SNW and LD -- and yes, SNW occasionally annoys me too.
I wasn't a fan of DISCO mainly because it felt like a mess and I didn't really gel with Burnham as a character. Though I really liked Saru and I really liked Admiral Cornwell a lot.
Never watched Academy and probably never will.

Put a person who doesn't deeply understand Star Trek in charge of all Star Trek content and that is why this era of Star Trek is more misses than hits.
