Blurry Moon@sun@shitposter.world (2026-10-05 12:26:28) it's not clear to me if I should have used a framework to build a web gui, I am using w3c web components, which is actually working really good. I'm currently breaking out menus into separate display and definitions and a state machine for what is displayed when, so it's less ad-hoc

Blurry Moon@sun@shitposter.world (2026-10-05 12:23:42) I'm doing major refactoring of FLAT16 UI so it's more maintainable, I am really hoping I don't break anything but it SHOULD result in more consistent interface, theres a lot of ad-hoc in there.
Sun Microdevil Pte Ltd@koakuma@uwu.social boosted: @87flowers@mk.absturztau.be (2026-09-25 04:09:15) i've wanted to document board game engine search techniques and collect my thoughts on a website
this is because knowledge of SOTA engine tech is within the minds of a few dozen active engine developers
but we've also seen the advent of slop-generated engines as well
i have posted some of my thoughts of LLM use in the chess engine space here: https://lobste.rs/s/3d3wbr/born_against_why_hobby_programming#c_dxh99b
this intent to document the engine space was made before LLMs became a real thing in the space, mostly because i fear knowledge getting lost
before you suggest CPW, the chess programming wiki is out of date, and i do not have edit access (and the current new owners (lichess) still haven't decided on editing)
i am torn between wanting to document knowledge for future generations but also fear making it more accessible to current LLM scrapers. i have historically always been a proponent of open access to knowledge, but modern scraping makes it feel like i am doing work for free while simultaneously damaging the field i am trying to save.
i don't know anymore.

underproofed ganbold@ganbold (2026-10-05 12:10:59) server update:
1. turned down litellm => no longer relevant nowadays with the subs etc that ban user if you forward it through routing service
2. updated tinyap to latest commit
3. self-hosted paseo relay service, no better option that keep things in-house
runner still not in my priority. like sure I want them, but idk. I will monitor my services while deciding what to add/remove for the time being

Gombang@gombang@social.nancengka.com boosted: @digyoursoul@universeodon.com (2026-10-05 11:41:56) A program in Borneo is paying villagers to photograph wildlife instead of hunting it, turning former hunters into protectors of endangered species.
Through the KehatiKu program, run by Borneo Futures, more than 800 people in nine villages in Indonesia’s West Kalimantan province earn up to $200 a month by uploading photos and audio recordings of animals, with bonuses for rare sightings like orangutans.
Their contributions have produced 378,000 confirmed observations, including Critically Endangered and Endangered species like the Bornean orangutan and Abbott’s gibbon.
“Where previously they caught one bird and it was worth 50,000 rupiah, now they just need to take a photo,” the program’s Indonesia director told AFP, while a 72-year-old farmer named Imelda said, “we really, really want to protect them.” One farmer said the extra income is helping pay for his children’s college educations.
Funded through 2028 with $300,000 in philanthropic money, the program is expanding to two more villages next month, and its managing director says there’s now evidence that local forests and wildlife are “valued more for conservation than exploitation.” #wildlife #Nature #Conservation #indonesia #borneo
