also there's a big difference when you buy the game when it comes out and then get one DLC every 6 months, versus buying it a couple years after it came out, and being expected to buy 20 DLC's for $1000.
I bought ck2 when it came out and I genuinely looked forward to all the upcoming big updates and DLCs and had no problem paying for them.

At least I haven't seen much UI changes (good) in uuuh 10+ years of occasionally using it.

my favorite paradox games are ck2, vicky2, and darkest hour. i own ck3, but i played it only for a few hours and didnt end up liking it. i would probably like victoria 3 a lot, but i don't think i have a computer powerful enough to run it.
i played hoi4 a bunch too, and its good, but darkest hour really is the peak hearts of iron game. kaiserreich w/ darkest hour is the kind of game where you can play a single campaign for months. last time i tried hoi4, i just paid $5 for a single month of subscription to get all the DLC, which I don't think is a terribly bad deal. Then again I played it for like 2 hours and then never again lol.

@p @revengeday ck2 definitely falls in the realm of "just barely before paradox started going to shit" (thatd probably be the release of hoi4 or shortly after) imo

"humanity is destroying the Earth" factoid actualy just statistical error. average human destroys zero Earths. Investments Georg, who lives in penthouse & builds natural gas power plants to run datacentres nobody wants, is an outlier adn should not have been counted.

Does anyone still remember the time when Paradox was the likeable niche publisher for demanding strategy games? Long ago. Today Paradox is a corporation that milks its community, touches everything and turns it into mediocrity. The reverse Midas effect in pure form. Instead of gold, you get shit.
