@subnetter 1. they found some diaries on government computers he was keeping that he didn't hand over when told to hand over everything
2. they contradict a lot of things he said and to some extent implicate him in some actual lawbreaking
3. he got dragged in front of a congressional hearing to answer questions
4. biden gave an extremely broad pardon to fauci already so he can't be prosecuted for anything if the pardon holds
5. the supreme court has already said if you're pardoned you don't have fifth amendment protection for that anymore and have to testify
6. fauci is invoking the fifth on every question (over 100 times total)
7. his lawyer is saying it's valid because he could be prosecuted by states
8. the prior mentioned supreme court ruling would have NO meaning if that argument were actually true
9. they found him in contempt of court and probably are gonna refer him to the justice department for charges
10. at the same time there's at least talk of getting the biden pardon legally challenged because the pardon is literally "fauci is pardoned for ANY (unspecified) crime in this multi-year date range". which, maybe it's legal to do that, but it shouldn't be because that's fucking stupid to allow on its face.
11. obviously the hearing is politically motivated but it seems like he did in fact hide shit from FOIA and the stuff he hid does contradict what he's publicly said and even testified under oath.
No one knows yet how this will turn out.

@7666 everything he is doing is sensible if you're defending yourself, and I would do the same, I just think the actual legal defense his lawyer is putting up has some big holes. but you gott do what you can

@sun if the purpose of a proceeding is an investigation into opening criminal charges against yourself then it makes sense not to give your opponents an ounce of leeway and to use your rights appropriately in the pursuit of that mission. not a since ounce of good faith in that room from anyone is warranted.
nothing I say should be misconstrued as support for fauci as one denthead has already done. the protections at play are larger than any one man.

if fauci's argument that he can plead 5th despite federal pardon because of state prosecutions was true, it would render the entire prior 5th amendment supreme court ruling irrelevant, which is obviously not the case

@sun Our governments let us be wrong as a safety valve and tolerate it as long as we stick to fecklessly complaining, and if the nonviolent dissent lacks elite sponsorship and lasts for longer than a couple Saturdays, cell phone location logs start getting subpoenaed. We're domesticated to the point that those liberties cause more harm than good. They're illusions, just boiling the frog slow enough to keep it from jumping out.

I was at the office. Had to visit toilet multiple times through the day. 3 times on that same day I forget to turn the latch and mid-business a black cleaner dude opens the door, sees me, and whispers "hey, you know, we have locks on these doors?" looking me in the eye
then I wake up at 3am in my home and have to piss. I locked the bathroom door even though I'm the only soul in the apartment

@mrsaturday also just like two big benefits outside the sphere of communism is "the right to be wrong" and the possibility of nonviolent dissent and correction

@sun @winterklaus yeah but people mindlessly parrot that statement not understanding that the situation with the SPD in Germany in the 1920s/30s was also the result of the unique conditions at the time. though also "social democracy" is a distinct thing from "democratic socialism"; the DSA is closer to Salvador Allende than the SPD.

I dunno you can admire that generally china does things better for its people than the USA in a lot of ways and still recognize the ideology is still another tyranny over the mind of man

@malcircuit if you support CCP on pragmatic terms, eventually you will have legitimate criticism of something they do less than optimally. and then they will liquidate you. that is how that system works and why westerners that unironically fluff CCP are rubes. You would be dead in their system.

You know it occurs to me that the training data for Jai/Odin/Zig is going to be substantially more sparse than for Rust/C++/C#
Therefore learning one of the former languages is good job security against clankers :thinkretard:

@winterklaus being something of an ultra communizer whatever who is well-read in extremely niche theory, I've started to find it very tiresome how common it is for the supposedly advanced consciousness types to not understand that if you actually want to *do* anything and not just posture to your friends about having the correct opinions, you need to be able to diagnose what the current conditions and opportunities are and then work within that instead of screeching in the cuck chair of history about how the DSA are social fascists or some other terminally online leftoid shit.

@nyx i am learning a lot watching the situation, hard to articulate but i get the sense that presently, heterogeneous political strategy in this moment means that the mass moves one way, imperfectly, and there's little point in taking a position that wants it another way, there are angles of attack, lines of flight within that. it won't go how we might like but it's important that it's going

@winterklaus it's very clearly the site of struggle right now. my analysis of the situation has been though that there will likely need to be a point where the contradictions sharpen enough that the DSA is forced into going underground and adopting a more militant/revolutionary stance (sorta like what happened with the Bolsheviks once they became too powerful and were explicitly suppressed with state violence). I think there is also the slim possibility that the DSA could succeed in a peaceful transition to socialism similarly with what happened in Chile when Allende was elected, if only because the US is such a decrepit dying empire that there is literally nowhere else for history to go other than complete collapse and balkanization or socialism (i.e. "socialism or barbarism" but like actually).
but it's hard to say and maybe will be a mix of the two things because the US is very unevenly developed. it's simultaneously the wealthiest country in the world and yet the American people are broadly immiserated in very basic ways yet also have not known the kind of daily fight for survival struggles that people in Russia or China did when they had their communist revolutions. it is truly an unprecedented situation but one thing I know for sure is that there's absolutely no way the status quo is going to be able to continue for much longer.
