i tried 8bloat but found it quite buggy in replies, at least with snac. if i replied to a post the reply would either appear in someone's timeline not attached to the og post, or even in the replies of a different post.

How can we further modernise in the future if we're already at maximum innovation?"

nonfree and open source would typically be called source available

Reply to @emiliamicrosystems@brain.worm.pink πŸ’™πŸ©·πŸ’œ Brett [he/him/any]@brettm@swarm.coiloptic.org (2026-10-07 07:41:13) @emiliamicrosystems@brain.worm.pink @CoralineAda@ruby.social

?? 'open source' means the source code is open, its right there in the words. nothing about license. that people use one term ('open source') when they mean another ('permissively licensed') does not change that.

if you don't want General Dynamics (eg) to use your software, then it must be in the license, "this license does not apply to General Dynamics, General Dynamics is not granted any right to use this license" a code of conduct does nothing and has no force.

licenses are not the right tool to use for this sort of ethical guidelines imo
put it in a code of conduct or something. if you put it in a license you're just doing a "This software must be used for Good, not Evil" moment
licenses are also stupid
please use the bare minimum, ISC or 0BSD or whatever funny thing you come up with, fuck copyright

yes its important information. but it also shows how much the "no llm in our project" is more marketing than reality, as all those "no llm" projects also contain compiler, tmux, x11, and in many cases the sloppiest of all, a linux kernel.
