Open source licenses are predicated on imposing no restrictions on use cases. But if the technology is truly neutral, as so many claim, then the use cases are all thatβs left for ethical evaluation.
When you have to choose, do you want ethical or open? Is it still ecocide if the weights are open?

@CoralineAda@ruby.social nobody forces anyone to use gpl or bsd syyle licences for their open source projects, anyone can write their own that says "no llm company or defence contractor is granted a license" or name specific companies or genocidal countries like israel where the license is not valid.

@brettm @CoralineAda that would make it not an open source or free license tho
licenses are not the right tool to use for this sort of ethical guidelines imo
put it in a code of conduct or something. if you put it in a license you're just doing a "This software must be used for Good, not Evil" moment
licenses are also stupid
please use the bare minimum, ISC or 0BSD or whatever funny thing you come up with, fuck copyright
