@clemens that always could happen anyway tbh, it sounds nice to say we don't negotiate with terrorists, but we do all the time.

@kaia in the end what I built would not have been possible without a couple of decades of art experience informing how I slopped it, but I admit I slopped it.

@sun i think slopcoding is a good word, since AI users profess their skepticism while also taking advantage of AI as a tool :ina_nod:

@sun I don't respect to get explanations that aren't any. If the official line is the explanation then I expect many more French and EU citizens to be taken hostage from now on 🤷

@pernia its not optimized for...anything. it's designed to be secure first. it didn't even get SMP in the kernel until really late.

i thought that by stopping myself being too negative here people would be more likely to interact with me but i was wrong. when i try to be funny i'm the only one laughing. when i post about my hobbies nobody cares. and when i engage with others it's ringle-sided more than half the time. my cat gets much more attention than i do

@clemens I'm sure there's a calculus involved, but if a spy gets caught there's an obligation to try to get him back and it's respectable that France values the lives of its citizens over freeing up some money. In my opinion it's the right choice, but feel free to disagree, I respect that.

@sun "a couple of billionaires" - one of them used to be the richest Russian. Given how big and public that "favour" to the Russians is, the explanation of "some spies" in Azerbaijan (confusingly not Uzbekistan) doesn't cut it.

lain have you tried qwen image 2.1? I assume its the best editing for local after seeing friends result on it, like at least the home version of gpt image 2.0. but not sure for composition understanding etc

@clemens France is not actually saying who, they have only said it's a national security issue. So, we can assume, probably spies.

@clemens it's favor trading, not a dual exchange. it makes sense because russia is a thugocracy and there's not a clear separation between Putin-connected oligarchs and the government. I'm not saying it's good, I'm saying it's just a fairly understandable arrangement. each side has something the other wanted, so they're trading. French citizens held in Uzbekistan get home if they unfreeze a couple billionaires money.
