It's gonna be some sort of new "open source" era, just like how open source has made it so you don't have to purchase video players, video codecs, programs to convert videos, etc.

Considering what I'm able to do with an Snes game, there is a significant chance that I can use this tech to crack a massive amount of old historical software and games which keygens and serial code sites are now entirely defunct

I know of a Win 3.1 level era game which has the game's speed tied to the CPU, I had to actually hex edit the save file to break beyond the speed setting to actually make it playable, but it was still TOO fast even at the absolute limit. With AI, I could probably change the game's code in some way to either make it so that I can properly adjust it for modern computers, either fix the speed setting and maybe even fix whatever is making the game NOT run on post-XP Windows, after all, Visual Basic stuff of that era is 100% easily reverse engineerable so a skilled modern AI could probably accomplish all of that

Gombang@gombang@social.nancengka.com boosted: @drakulix@social.dreampi.es (2026-09-22 18:43:55) I swear FOSS discourse has evolved into the same reactionary infighting seen in leftist spaces. It is wild to me, how a bunch of people scream “nazi bar”, when a certain guest speaker in the KDE space brings up Omarchy as a bad example and publicly denounces DHH.

And then extending on that thought with “I knew he wasn’t trustworthy, when he mentioned having worked for Google and Apple” (not a direct quote) after also stating that they are working for notable open source projects. The notion, that somebody needs to have been a FOSS-evangelist since their very birth is absolutely ridiculous.

Sorry to be age-ist about this, but some of you clearly never have tried to get their Wifi-Stick working with ndiswrapper and it shows. Almost nobody knew what Linux was 25 years ago. There was no money in open-source, big tech wasn’t as big as today and actually driving innovation. *I* and many people I knew, wanted to work at Apple or Google when I was a teenager. And that wasn’t something you had to be morally defensive about.

Are we really blaming people for trying to make a living?

And of course all of this has a heavy overlap with the most insufferable parts of the Anti-AI crowd, but I don’t have it in me to go there today.

Reply to @sun@shitposter.world Blurry Moon@sun@shitposter.world (2026-09-23 08:00:53) @anemone the goal here is not necessarily "convert any art with 100% accuracy to PC-98 art". It's "take carefully-prepared art meant to be in that style and make the torturous parts automated to get it 80-90% of the way there".

Also, it's a general-purpose paint program in PC-98 style so after you get the art in there, you can edit it and not mess up the colors/lines because it understands the medium.
