@sendpaws @coolboymew @sun I'd imagine that there are plenty of Monica Rial-type gatekeepers that aggressively keep anyone that strays too far from their norms from taking off. I do agree that the whole notion of there being "art communities" with ideological checklists is a major problem, though. Just draw, animate, whatever, and let the work do the talking.

Of course, that was also a problem going back to the DeviantArt age, a lot of people trolled people on that site by saying "your art is shit" or "fuckin weird bro".

@mrsaturday @coolboymew @sun Also I should add something else: internet artists are petty and spiteful towards anyone who even gets too successful in that sphere and might have stepped on some people along the way.

Look at Vivziepop, many of the people who shit on her do it because she managed to break out of that scene. There's some valid reasons to shit on her or her work, but they've been overshadowed by the BlueSky people screeching at her wishing that they could be in her shoes with a big name production.

Or how a problematic artist who drew edgy shit a few years ago will always have someone tagging along every time someone features his art to dump the Google Doc/screenshots. To them, it's no different than an artist actually doing heinous shit. ---Attachments--- image: https://mitra.pawslut.party/media/591879882322d9a3da72f6d4b5c5c2110b3f8c9c5e51b961ea1ac7cfdf0698a2.png
