you ever think about the fact that modern 1080p video streams at 7-ish mbit are so compressed that they'd still fit on a DVD disc if only players could decode it.

The 1080p streaming gunk on the internet is just DVD quality video, stretched to cover a much higher resolution and then hoping a newer codec will manage to at least make it watchable

@quad In a different world I'd imagine people would do exactly that like how people re-encoded DVD videos to fit on a CD with Xvid

@mikoto Honestly, with modern AV1, 9 Mbit/s would probably make for pretty darn decent 1080p experience.
