my dad has an old stable on his property next to the street. rebuilding it according to German monument protection laws would cost around 2 million EUR instead of pulling it down and rebuilding it for 250k EUR. so he has to wait until it's completely unsafe to rebuild. then he can pull it down and re-build for 250k. will take a few more decades, maybe task for the next generation.

In a couple decades humans might start using quite different mounts — and the stables will have to rebuilt anyway to accommodate those.
I bet on giant snails! Impractical? Slow? So are horses compared to automobiles!
