Put a person who doesn't deeply understand Star Trek in charge of all Star Trek content and that is why this era of Star Trek is more misses than hits.

Though, there are two standout shows:

Star Trek: Lower Decks (consistently good)Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (mostly good)What do you think of this era of Trek? What were your favorites of the shows?

DISCO suffered from main character syndrome and Game of Thrones-itus due to its habit of killing off characters randomly.

I never watched Academy. I doubt it deserves the hate it got, but I also don’t like that era. It’s just dumb and depressing, even though it’s basically what Gene Roddenberry’s notes laid out. (Those notes became Andromeda.)

I would like more stuff in the PIC era, and I was fine with a wounded and defeated Picard, because art should reflect the world, and that’s how it feels now. But again, it suffered from Game of Thrones-itus and too much fan service nostalgia.

Honestly, I think two things hurt modern Trek. First, streaming has only 8 episodes so they want to tell a season long story which forces a galaxy threatening treadmill. Trek made its legacy through stand alone episodes and the ensemble, and there just isn’t much space for that in a third of a traditional season. I will say that, SNW seems to have achieved that, but they also have a hefty amount of legacy characters.

The other thing that hurts Trek (and Star Wars) is that they pay attention to the online discourse. Discourse that is dominated by absolute ignorant chuds. It would be nice if a producer would actually say, “why should anyone care what you think fuckwad?”

And that is why Andor — which has no Jedi, no Glup Shittos, “woke”, and has *gasp* screw and bricks (my absolute favorite actual complaint) — is the best Star Wars show in total.

I agree on SNW and LD -- and yes, SNW occasionally annoys me too.

I wasn't a fan of DISCO mainly because it felt like a mess and I didn't really gel with Burnham as a character. Though I really liked Saru and I really liked Admiral Cornwell a lot.

Never watched Academy and probably never will.
