Yet I would probably need someone to physically hold a literal gun against my head before I sat down and spent more than like two minutes on doing it.

I like to argue that documentation is more important than the actual code often, because without proper documentation nobody knows how to use it. There's probably many software projects out there being really underappreciated simply because they lack proper documentation.
