do you think there to be there much reason to not just use zfs anyways (I assume there to be ai commits (disclosed or otherwise) in plenty of kernel code by now unfortunately) and just pin zfs to a specific version later if they deploy more substantial amounts of slop?

Not having to reformat my drive if I later install a non-linux kernel is something I care about

Reply to @brettm@swarm.coiloptic.org natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-25 08:30:29) @brettm they put claude in zfs??

Reply to @0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-25 06:32:34) I don't want to use btrfs because btrfs looks more complicated than zfs. also I want my system to be plausibly able to run on a bsd kernel if I want it to

Reply to @0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-25 06:31:08) I wonder if I can plausibly patch linux to have zfs be in-tree. I don't want to build extra modules

Reply to @0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-25 06:23:31) I do not care about subvolumes or pools, I just want dedup and compression

natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-25 06:19:19) ugh, btrfs and zfs are both so complicated

Reply to @0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-24 19:49:57) natalie for president 2028. my platform is that I will imprison every ai ceo and clockwork orange them with the will smith eating spaghetti video.

Reply to @0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-24 19:44:10) firefox randomly forgets what tabs I have open now. nvim segfaults if I press u too many times. why are we putting claude slime in these? there is no reason to do this. I hope someone sets anthropic's offices on fire.

natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-24 19:39:24) can we please stop putting claude in things? software I use for which there are few viable alternatives has gotten so noticeably worse of late in exchange for literally no benefit. you don't have to set money on fire to make bad software, you can just learn from the dbus codebase.

natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-24 06:29:09) duckduckfedi does anyone in my local fedi bubble use a filesystem with transparent compression and deduplication on their personal computer? I am thinking about repartitioning my drive with such a setup and I am curious about the performance impacts of having my /home compressed. currently, my /home is 1.4tb raw, 926.44gb with lz4 compression, and 769gb deduplicated and compressed. at present an operation like fd '.*' . -uuu takes about 10 seconds to run against my entire home partition. running rg against my entire home partition takes about 1m22.857s. does anyone with a system like the one I intend on creating have benchmarks for how long similar operations take when using transparent compression and dedup over the filesystem?

natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-23 10:18:14) is there a neovim fork without all the slop? neovim segfaults when I :undo roughly 20% of the time now.

natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-23 07:45:47) borg is so confusing. why is this so complicated. it took me like an hour to figure out how to make a backup with the help of another borg user

natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-22 18:15:29) I like how framework made the amazing and unprecedented (at least, within every laptop I have owned prior to this framework 13) decision to put the air intake on the fucking bottom of the computer so that if you set it on---presumably the second or third most common surface for laptops to be on---a bed, the entire computer gets too hot to touch without experiencing pain while idling. every other computer I have owned has put the intake on the side or back or really just anywhere that doesn't have this problem. incredible things going on in the problematizing non-problems space

Reply to @brettm@swarm.coiloptic.org natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-22 18:10:02) @brettm @moses_izumi idk, I think the web is kind of a fundamentally broken platform at this point. the sheer complexity of all the js apis browsers have to implement is absurd

natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-22 10:46:24) firefox has been compiling for 104 minutes. the linux kernel compiles and links with -flto=full in 22 minutes. I hate the web

natalie[ee]@0x6e6174@mastodon.catgirl.cloud (2026-07-20 04:47:52) good morning federated verse o/
