underproofed ganbold@ganbold (2026-08-02 17:56:11) I need more people testing RX580
I need to actually write my own result lmao

this is one of the RX580 research done by someone
https://amihart.medium.com/inference-with-an-rx580-13e9c1055472

my way of writing is always writing every cases in a single article, so it will be very bulky but not in a way of research purpose writing.

btw I agree that vulkan is much better with AMD rather than ROCM. ROCM is very weird in my opinion, even in a certain case it could beat Vulkan, but when I try to reproduce it, its kinda flaky.
meanwhile NVIDIA is doing the best with their backend and most of the time it produces better result than vulkan

Reply to @ganbold underproofed ganbold@ganbold (2026-08-02 17:34:59) for 16GB market, intel is cheapest in the local market. but building 8GBx2 is cheaper than intel 16GBx1

underproofed ganbold@ganbold (2026-08-02 17:28:00) why is RX580/RX590 is so cheap for 8GB VRAM????????

meanwhile 6GB market are stupidly pricey. what is the catch?

I could go out and buy it right now and running 9B or 12B model with a decent speed

underproofed ganbold@ganbold (2026-08-02 16:50:20) honestly extremely annoyed with the current throughput per second for either prefill and decode. using cloud inference, it won't give me a time to breath. but using local inference, it gives me plenty of room to breath but I feel like my brain in stale state for a good few seconds which lead it to booting once the inference is done.

I am not sure what can I do with 4GB/6GB/8GB VRAM. kinda afraid with the model quality around that size even if it gives me speed. the amount of money to waste is just too scary

Reply to @ivy@misskey.id underproofed ganbold@ganbold (2026-08-02 16:39:36) yoo that is goat

I never knew ivy uses it. what is the tracking pixel one tho

> Lightweight and fast; adds just ~3.5K of extra data to your site. Also has JavaScript-free "tracking pixel" option, or you can use it from your application's middleware or import from logfiles.

going to look at it for sure

underproofed ganbold@ganbold (2026-08-02 16:37:40) oh yeah it reminds me I need to setup my own CI/CD server. this one local is fine. the only question is how do I use incus for it since incus has a habit of surpassing RAM limit means using more CPU

underproofed ganbold@ganbold (2026-08-02 16:27:09) I accessed alibaba, byteplus, and larksuite more than I accessed aws, gcp, and google suite

wtf is this transition

Reply to @sun@shitposter.world underproofed ganbold@ganbold (2026-08-02 16:22:30) I've been using AI for the i18n as well. at least it provided accessibility even if reliability is in question. they can always fallback to english and use their own translation tool

the idea of using generative i18n for me is just to show inclusiveness instead of being english-first

underproofed ganbold@ganbold (2026-08-02 16:02:58) the only option I could think to reduce my mini PC temperature is either those idk what are those names, one that you stick to the cpu, ram, or ssd. then if it doesnt help, maybe a time for installing a heat sink. since its not a laptop, should be easier to install heat sink.

90ish degree celcius on max compute is something I'd like to decrease. at least 80 or 70 ideally

Reply to @ivy@misskey.id underproofed ganbold@ganbold (2026-08-02 14:15:04) is it require me to put the js script in the site? https://github.com/arp242/goatcounter

looks like def much more lightweight than umami. but for now kinda dropping idea of putting things on the client side.

underproofed ganbold@ganbold (2026-08-02 13:09:12) I can't digest the reason of companies are moving to larksuite. yes, I appreciate moving away from google. but why larksuite?

initially I thought it was just the case for companies that partially owned by chinese so that maybe the HQ can have easier access toward things. but I wonder if its the case.

underproofed ganbold@ganbold (2026-08-02 13:03:44) where is my TWS at

Reply to @ivy@misskey.id underproofed ganbold@ganbold (2026-08-02 13:03:02) oh yeah lmao, as Sandy said honestly, that was my plan. pulling access logs from nginx conf.d, then another script structure them in a way like "last accessed". but definitely need a way to filter out the bot so I don't mistake bot access as actual user access, not sure how

underproofed ganbold@ganbold boosted: @thea@misskey.id (2026-08-02 01:02:18) @ganbold@sns1.hydranlab.com tui with streaming from different host is basically how mpv-based TUI navidrome player works lol since navidrome supports play from http stream(? - for its web player) and libmpv. I think those vibecoded rust navidrome players like ratune uses http instead of mpv, with downside that some file format librarylike opus is unsupported until very recently, I think it hasn't been public last time I checked ratune's issues on github. mpv supports anything as long as you have the libs installed.

for pixel rendering, indeed subtui used it for compatibility with many terminal. also choosing between terminal image renderer standard like kitty, sixel, etc, or even supporting all of them is a pain which is fair.
