@moody In fact here's something "funny" about web-engines: They all rely on Chromium (ANGLE for WebGL, libwebrtc for WebRTC).
So for the modern web you need friends at Google.

if i was ceo of mozilla i would start by deleting 2/3 of the features, for example sorry 'tab context menu' its in the sewer for you, then my attention would turn to each dev who put a double or triple negative in an about:config setting, or a cryptic setting whose function cannot be known from its name, ceo brett would switch to stalin mode for them and i don't mean send them to siberia. 'senior distinguished engineer' promotion for 2026 goes to whoever deletes the most about:config settings.

I was traveling when the linux llm shite broke so I didn't get much of a chance to scream in to the void so here I am. I have said as much before, but I think people underestimate what percentage of their definition of 'usable computer' is only possible by the grace of companies. If your idea of usable operating system precludes a modern web browser I hope you have friends at google or mozilla. If your idea of a usable operating system is one with working modern GPU drivers I hope you have friends at Nvidia or AMD. In other words, corporate interests have already captured your favorite popular operating system and have tied their own insurmountable(by outsiders for the most part) work to the very definition of what a ie functional linux system is for desktop use.
Point is, if you want if you want anti-llm operating systems and software, you know where to find it, you just cant expect it to coexist with corporate interests and perhaps we could be a bit more honest about how much that impacts what folks define as a 'usable' system.
I say this, posting from a linux install, so I sit comfortably in my glass house. However I think we need to stop fooling ourselves in to thinking linux or any product propped up by corporate involvement as anything but a corporate product. Expect no better of Torvalds than you would the CEO of Microsoft, their money comes from the same place after all.

yes that's still the current status afaik. freebsd did have a temp ban ~mid 2025 but seems to have been swept under the carpet, even some freebsd devs did not know about it. freebsd default filesystem is zfs which is developed in a tree shared with linux and other os, so slop gets pulled in that way. tmux allows slop so all os get that, unless they ship with screen instead i guess. llvm allows slop so all os get that, unless they compile with gcc, which so far has none, awaiting for some subcommittee to make the decision for them.

I'm a software engineer closing my second decade of career, with experience in whole lot of backend software, big data/data engineering, devops, dataops, SRE, system administration, whatever other computer problems one might be tasked to solve.
And I'm looking for a job that needs any of that. I've been looking for quite some time, without much going on.
(Globally) remote (from Uruguay), USA or West Europe timezone adjacent (or any other if partial overlap works), I'd really love not to touch LLMs. Inexpensive even by EU standards.
