@toast @ignaloidas japan re-privatized its railways and it seems to work fine fwiw, way better in fact than before. obviously not going to be the same everywhere but seems to indicate it's not an inherently bad idea

@sun @ignaloidas yeah the japan model of privatization is notably region-based rather than "big entity that does it all" and has a few other special attributes that makes it mostly work out
you'll note that private/public are a moot concern under direction action, since the distinction isn't as strong as under the current sociopolitical model (+ profit motive is significantly reduced or eliminated which further messes with the distinction)

@toast @ignaloidas I agree with ignaloidas though that if you duplicated tracks everywhere it would be crazy but I don't think that seriously was gonna happen anyway.
