Finally got this shit working, had a horrible ground loop noise problem because of a cheap-ass audio adapter, switching to a good audio adapter fixed it. Anyway, here's some DOOM music on MIDI:

@theorytoe top: usb sound and midi adapter

bottom: a good quality MIDI playback device.

The sound adapter is routing MIDI into the playback. the playback device is outputting raw audio back intot he sound adapter.

Previously I could never get this working because of horrible static noise. I was using a cheap-ass sound device.

this sound adapter is quite old but was prosumer when it was released.
