it just seems kinda very silly to have a scripting language,, at hand, literally implementing an app in a flexible scripting language, but having to use a different language because the sandboxing facilities for python are really just that bad

pypy has a neat sandboxing thing but it seems like it's abandoned. i don't see why it wouldn't work for my purposes though

the issue with including arbitrary python code in spreadsheets is it's apparently very difficult to sandbox python. So i might do like,, javascript? or scheme? i think both of those have pretty okay sandboxing abilities

like,, I'm imagining,, frontend for sqlite, you make tables, then you define operations on them with,, idk,, R maybe. R spits out other tables or graphs etc. maybe that wouldn't be,, as friendly of an interface as excel, but it'd be,, not as hard to implement. The point is, you'd have your data, your processing and your results all in one thingy. you could also do python. pick your poison type thing

it's weird that all of the open source options suck so bad. gnumeric actually seems like someone cared about it when making it. but they all have crashed and or frozen on me several times, and they all have really weird design flaws that i encounter basicaly immediately.

like it doesn't have to have an excel-ish workflow, I just want something i can put data in, and then get stats and graphs out of

libreoffice calc does the job.. but it feels bad to use. Not pleasurable. the performance is,, surprisingly bad, the UI is terrible, and the documentations is,, meh.
it has me wondering if there's another open source spreadsheet-like thing that would fill the role
