@vriska I wish I could love pro wrestling, I know from having it explained to me that there's something worthwhile there, but whenever I tried watching it all it see is sweaty men fake slapping one another, and I am just unable to take it seriously.

I bet this is what trying to watch anime for the first time as an adult feels like. If you haven't built the ability to take the form and its memes seriously as a kid/teen, it becomes too hard to do it as an adult.
