things you can't do on a 6,000 dollar macos machine that you can do on a 150 dollar linux machine:
* iommu + virtualization so you can isolate usb devices for things like hdmi capture, impossible on a mac because isochronous transfer is impossible
* setting the uvc video quality on capture
* flash a four dollar esp32 device over usb
* pass through a raw device to qemu without jumping through a bunch of hoops
* mount good foreign file systems like zfs
dozens of others I'm forgetting. A ridiculous number of things I have to keep a linux laptop around to do because the macbook pro simply cannot do it.

I spent hours trying to flash a fucking esp32 device and it literally worked perfectly and instantly the second I switched to a cheapass linux laptop.

MacOS is a joke of an operating system. it's not a good unix; it threw away all its unique and thoughtful UI decisions when it switched to OS X. its virtualization is crap, it can't even correctly virtualize itself. Finder is total shit that can't even sort files correctly. the hardware is very very good. too bad about that OS though.
