To the boy I met in Czechia
Before I met you in the school trip
when it was still the Czech Republic
swallow a few stale pieces of bread
search for the moon at noon
going to a carnival faceless
blend into the land of Franz Kafka
And then, at school during a storm: you
Your presence near me like
a cottage in an ancient forest
that breathes in deep cedar
Sheltered from the rain I savour
a gulášová stew warmer
than Karlovy Vary springs fuzzy
blanket heart throbbing louder
than thunder booming
In the yellowing lyceum
I craft a bracelet round
a compass for Hermes' marble
in the museum springing
up the stairs sneaking
on a chariot to Mars
the green steel roaring
to the air a comet soaring
at apex your boyish figure
shadowing the statue and the sun
Yes, I liked chatting with girls
but I liked you too, sweeter than a star
In my heart I even vowed to you
a family tree deep and tall
A secret I bring home
half a world away
eaten a week later
as breakfast before school
Your oblivious farewell a toothpaste
that bleaches the day clean
At school, I watch the leaves
sleep through the seasons
tumbling in a washing machine
dyed into white crunches still
The Orloj clock tolls
Around the sun the comet rolls
The concrete bulbs darken the night
leaving only one distant moon
in the sky with no stars or boys
Echoing from the uni halls
A new girl from class call
A new flower I fall
I thought I only liked girls after all
I thought the moon was just a phase
I thought I wasn't enough
to deserve you and I a deceiver
a magnet with a single pole
The compass needle
shackled by a spider web
snagged into itself
A thread twinkles at the tail
I climb it like a mountain crimson
with corona weights on the lungs
roped in by your gravity
The Orloj clock cycles
over and over for twelve years
into to the next office day
A tsunami silenced
crashes on the sky
My battle-hardened lungs recover
the smell of daffodils dancing
in the open field whistling
spanning two poles of the Earth
I sneak out of my
