It's from the 70s but the idea is of course still interesting. the median household income in 73 was ~$10k, now it's ~80k. so for a 65 cent big mac, that would be $5 dollars today, which is pretty much the price of a big mac.

@lain I would be surprised if McD's wasn't adjusting their prices periodically around median household income to ensure sales.

do you know if the range of salaries has widened around the median? A flatter distribution would produce a larger subset of people for whom the median-adjusted hamburger is still too expensive

it might help to explain why so many people complain about feeling squeezed even on things like this where the price is an inflation-adjusted equivalent
