So…yup, apparently Apple caved.
Interestingly, _both_ names are currently showing for me in Apple Maps right now. Caching problem? Or maybe an attempt to list both names?
Regardless: if they crumple over this, do you really trust the company to protect your private data if the Trump admin comes calling for something worse than a stupid geographic feature renaming?

I don't know if there’s a way to make our voices audible to Apple on this, but if there is, it’s worth pushing that. This isn’t just a silly whim or a symbolic fight. It’s about power. It’s about consolidation of power. It’s about a would-be autocrat testing the boundaries of his power, testing whether he can get one of the richest corporations ever to exist to bend to his whims…further, and further, and a little further still….
As @anildash says: what’s the point of having fuck-you money if you never say “fuck you?”
Apple already capitulated on mislabeling the Gulf of Mexico. But that was in 2025, the Year of Complying in Advance. Now? We’ll see.
