The haze over Southeast Asia is now a diplomatic issue. Indonesia's foreign minister, Arrmanatha Nasir, says Jakarta has shared all its fire data with ASEAN and "consistently met all reporting requirements". Hotspot numbers are falling every day, he says.
The regional weather centre has had its top Level 3 haze alert on since August 26. Malaysia praises Indonesia's firefighting but wants tougher action on the ground, as bad air disrupts daily life across the border. Kuala Lumpur will raise it with ASEAN foreign ministers before November's summit in Manila. Singapore says it is ready to help.
