small-time fedi trainwreck personality & long-abiding fedi development attempter. been here since 2017 and haven't accomplished a damn thing besides making friends :)
I used to work in 9-5 software engineering but found it wasn't for me, and then life took me on a ride. I'm still on that ride, and now trying to reboot as an indie developer.

does anybody know if there are other ActivityPub platform softwares with post filtering/transmogrifying facilities as capable as, or more capable than, Pleroma/Akkoma's MRF?
it counts whether it works at the instance or user level.
boosts appreciated so's I hopefully end up hearing about even obscure ones.

in short, I have an uncomfortable feeling that some of this work, if implemented, is going to have a rather unsurprising emergent property of reinforcing in-groups composed of people very much like themselves.

now my concern could absolutely be unfounded, and I hope to be pleasantly surprised, but I'll just again point out that the supposed founder of IFTAS is somebody whose bio link on that site points to LinkedIn instead of anywhere running ActivityPub, and that people broadly similar to him are increasingly taking it upon themselves to define how this place operates.

the more I see these well-scrubbed comfortable people with little to no precarity in their lives excitedly collaborating on ActivityPub development, the more I become concerned for the future of the network (and more importantly me and my friends' ability to use it in peace).

@sun @anemone ah, was wondering if private repos were how you beat the scrapers. I have been very very very lucky in not having had to tangle much with them yet.

@sun @anemone you're using private Radicle repos?

@sun @anemone I'm currently running Forgejo but seeing as I have almost nothing on it, I may be tempted to switch

TIL that #Betterbird exists:
https://www.betterbird.eu/
gonna give it a try. after all, I'm moving away from Firefox, it doesn't really make sense to stick with other Mozilla products as they've shown their disinterest in software quality, preferring instead to ship useless features nobody wants and chase endless side quests which have nothing to do with shipping good software.

and then it forgets the sort order. every time.
unreal. it's 2026, for fuck's sake. this basic functionality should be sorted.

man, #Thunderbird really has become absolute ass. like maybe I'm a decade or more late to realizing this because I didn't use it so long, but the UX is absolutely atrocious. how many fucking times does it need to download the same set of messages in the same folder???
