"WHO assesses risks due to the spread of plague in the Irkutsk region
The World Health Organization contacted Russian authorities after a case of pneumonia of unknown etiology was detected in the Irkutsk region.
The WHO stated that the risk to public health is currently assessed as low.
Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) also reports that the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the region is stable, and monitoring of those who had contact with the patient is gradually being completed"

@brettm "Unknown etiology"? I've seen it reported everywhere that it was the plague, but they don't actually know?

@chjara@akko.tuxcrafting.xyz afaik the person who contracted it was exposed by a broken vial or similar at a biosafety level 3 lab. and afaik it was def pneumatic plague. maybe w.h.o. says 'unknown eitiology' to avoid feeding conspiracy theories about the lab being a bioweapons lab? or maybe they will wait to compare genetic samples?
