I never heard about this till now - in 2025 a (now former) MIT student faked writing AI neural net software, faked conducting a study with a large materials science company (showing the software increased number of materials patents by ~40%), faked a "Corning Research" website when people started to ask questions (to make it look like he'd work with Corning), faked emails from execs at Corning. Apparently in an attempt to gain university tenure when he graduated with an MIT economics PhD.
