If you have the time in Japan don't take the shinkansen, you won't see a thing cause its constantly surrounded by concrete sound barriers 

we're now taking a limited express and it's actually really nice (and cheaper than shinkansen)

more comfortable than shinkansen too since the shinkansen attacks your ears with many pressure changes due to speed

You won't see this from a shinkansen (or maybe for 2 seconds while you blast past)
