Emeritus Prof. Christopher May@ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk (2026-10-19 14:32:29) The argument about the negative economic impact of Brexit is well known, but damage to the UK's geopolitical position has been less commented on; not least as the UK political class still think the UK is a major power (due to having some nukes & a seat on the UNSC).

Now the IPPR have concluded:
'Sovereignty without the ability to act on it is not autonomy; hedging between larger powers is, at best, a strategy for survival rather than for success'

Emeritus Prof. Christopher May@ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk (2026-10-15 02:24:45) As Fernando Quintana (Guardian letters) says:

'A country that cannot afford to lose its billionaires should ask itself why it can apparently afford to impoverish everyone else'!
