The effect of the Wintel duo in particular is interesting to observe; it still amazes me that pretty much any upstart computing platform eventually carcinized into an IBM PC lookalike but with a different instruction set :02lurk:

Indeed. A new architecture is an x86 clone (AMD), an x86 pretender (Transmeta), or soon-to-be dead unique one. It’s a bit disheartening.

@AmenZwa Was thinking about the non-x86 ones specifically, seeing how even AArch64 and RISC-V gets the UEFI and ACPI and other usual PC-isms ported into it
