Voice actors now have to compete against AI reproductions of their own voices.
And because they often don't hold the copyright to the ads of TV shows they work on, there's basically no recourse:
"Jacqui Duncan has voiced more than 5000 commercials for Australian radio and television. And, as she told [a NSW stare government committee on AI], she owns none of them.
"Last financial year, Duncan earned about 30 per cent of what she had consistently made in the three years before. She now works a second job.
"'AI voices and performances have definitely played a big part,' she told this masthead. Clients have also used them to push down the rates the union spent years fighting for, she said. 'Itโs faster and cheaper, so therefore we should be as well.'
"Duncan, the NSW president of Equity, the performersโ division of the media union, gave evidence to the Joint Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence. 'I never gave consent for my work to be taken,' she said. @atraidez @netbsd Sources: see Cara social network recent news, who had 12 millions of artworks scrapped three time on August by AI dataset. The 'Glaze' on a big part of them (it was a premium built-in service) changed nothing.
Computer effort, electricity for nothing. ๐ฉ The illusion of protection. Sadly.

@atraidez @netbsd Yes, well aware (unfortunately), and I'll do the short version: it is a AI bro scam, boosted by a large (and successful) marketing effort. It was defeated on day 1, and now remain with a user base like a cult, especially appreciated from non technical user who are ready to believe in it because it sounds like the only "tech" option. But it doesn't work.
That's sad, I wish something like that would work, be open-source, would run on Linux, and be done by serious peoples.

Lovely, Google.
From my sweetheart's Chromebook this morning (the one she uses primarily for simple email and web-browsing), in order to obtain security updates you suggest a process that will remove the web-browser and email programs, and then disconnect her from the Play store where she might be able to obtain replacements/upgraded versions.
If I wanted to make it a useless brick that doesn't do web/email, I'd just turn it off.
Maybe the time has come to get her a new non-Chromebook?
